Youth

Each year, the SCO produces five to six productions primarily geared towards children and young adults. The productions generate both concerts for the general public and are offered free of charge to school children in the region. All in all, about 50% of the SCOs audiences are children and youth.

Among the musicians of the SCO, is a council for children's programs that plans future productions. The council collaborates with a number of partners, primarily schools and music schools, in and around Örebro, to create each production. Oftentimes, youth from the partnering schools and music schools participate themselves in the creation of a new production.

Örebro kulturskola, the local music school for children ages 4-19, is one of the SCOs recurring production collaborators. For the holidays, the SCO and Örebro kulturskola in partnership present the family holiday production Christmas cards for all ages from 4 years old and up.

Nova

In the Fall of 2007, a new youth project called NOVA was initiated by the SCO. NOVA is an umbrella name for something that the SCO hopes becomes a bi-annual event for children in the region. Along with musicians of the SCO, local school children are offered in-classroom activities coupled with visits at rehearsals and other meetings with arts-education teachers to go deeper into the music, learning new and exciting aspects of the creative field.

During the school year 2007-2008, NOVA focused on the theme of nature. Through music and dance activities, the children will explore this theme, learning more about contemporary debate on world climate changes and comparing their own reflections with the reflections on nature made by Ludwig van Beethoven and Brett Dean as they wrote their respective Pastoral Symphonies.

During the school year 2009/2010, NOVA is now in the midst of its second year.
