The Swedish Chamber Orchestra is a full-time ensemble of 39 players based in the city of Örebro (two hours west of Stockholm). The orchestra has its home in the Örebro Concert Hall, where each member of the orchestra has a private practice room. The orchestra gives some 90 concerts a year including national and international touring (Lincoln Center, BBC Proms, Salzburger Festspiele, Europe and Japan etc). The orchestra records for BIS, Sony Classics, Naxos, Hyperion, SIMAX, Chandos etc.

The audition will take place in Örebro Concert Hall, Sweden, on 29 & 30th of September, 2026.

The repertoire for the audition will be:

Audition 1st round

  • Haag/Sibelius (et. al.): Pukistiana – XL, page 1 – Timpani
  • Beethoven: Symphony No 9, mvt1 (bar 16-74), mvt 2 (bar 248-296) – Timpani (wood mallets)
  • Fhager: SCO Snare Drum Etude – Snare drum

Audition 2nd round

  • Beethoven: Symphony No 1, mvt 3 (bar 43-59) – Timpani (wood mallets)
  • Bartok: Concerto for orchestra, mvt 4 (bar 42-50) – Timpani with piano!
  • Brahms: Symphony No 4, mvt 3 (bar 1-17) – Timpani
  • Stravinsky (arr Johannes Mikkelsen): Les Noces, 2nd tableau – Xylofon with piano!
  • Daniel Berg: Blue Memories (bar 1-19) – Marimba

Audition 3rd round

  • Sibelius: Symphony No 1, mvt 1 (bar 1-17) – Timpani with clarinet!
  • Beethoven: Symphony No 7, mvt 1 (bar 315-339) – Timpani (wood mallets)
  • Stravinsky: History of a soldier, Marche triomphale du diable (the whole mvt) – Percussion with ensemble!
  • Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie: Anthropology (special arr) – Drum set with piano and double bass!

The complete music of all repertoire will be made available latest four weeks prior to the audition.
